The Saratoga Revolutionary Experience mobile app is a GPS-guided, audio-driven, augmented reality companion built specifically for touring the historic sites of the Battles of Saratoga. As you drive the Revolutionary corridor south from the Champlain Canal Gateway Visitor Center through Schuylerville and down to the battlefield at Saratoga National Historical Park, the app tracks your location, plays immersive audio history automatically, and unlocks AR experiences at specific sites where historical figures step directly into your surroundings.
No headsets required. No special equipment. Just your phone, the road, and 250 years of history that suddenly feels very close.

HOW TO USE THE GUIDE:
Before you leave
Download the app on WiFi. Open it and familiarize yourself with the interface. The app will ask for location permissions: allow them. That is what triggers the GPS navigation and the automatic audio. Without location access, the core features do not work.
On the road
Follow the app's turn-by-turn navigation from your first stop. Do not skip ahead in the sequence. The audio is designed to build: each stop's narration assumes you have heard the one before it. The battlefield makes more sense after the Gateway Visitor Center. The Surrender Site lands harder after the battlefield. The route is the argument, and the argument is linear.
At each site
When the app notifies you that an AR experience is available, point your phone's camera at the designated spot and wait for the character to appear. Hold the phone steady. The 3D animations are triggered by specific anchor points at each location, so position matters. If the AR does not trigger immediately, step back a few feet and try again. It will resolve.
Time to allow
Plan for a half day minimum. The full nine-site route with audio and AR at every stop runs three to four hours for most visitors. Add time at Saratoga National Historical Park, which has more ground to cover than any other single stop on the route, and at the Surrender Site, where the audio and AR together justify a longer pause. A full day allows you to move without rushing.
The app works best when you let it set the pace. The audio is timed to the driving segments between stops. If you are spending time at a site and the audio has ended, stay as long as the place holds you. The next track starts when you get back in the car.
